Before Reading Strategies

Here is a simple list of some before reading strategies:

  1. Before reading, ask questions that may be answered by the story.
  2. Look at any pictures or charts in the story.
  3. Look at the title and any headings to see if they help the reader predict what the story is about.
  4. Think about what you already know about the subject of the story.
  5. Think about why you are reading the story.
