During Reading Strategies

Here is a list of strategies students can complete while reading a story.

  1. Ask questions about what you are reading and try to answer them as you go along
  2. Go back and reread parts of the story that o not seem to match what you already know about the topic
  3. If you do not understand something in a selection, keep reading to see if you can make sense of what is happening
  4. If you do not understand something, slow down your reading rate
  5. When your mind begins to wander, go back and reread
  6. While reading, check for understanding by putting what you are reading into your own words
  7. While reading, go back and reread parts of the story that do not make sense at first
  8. While reading, look at pictures and charts to help you understand what you are reading
  9. While reading make predictions about what will happen next in the sorry
  10. While reading try to picture what is being described.
