Social Media and Education

Social Media is here and those businesses that are jumping on the bandwagon are finding that their sales are increasing as they catch the curve ahead of the rest of other businesses. What does this mean and how does it apply to teachers? Let’s find out.

First, let’s understand what social media is. Media is any means of communication that reaches an audience. Typically this is a writer or reporter sharing information with a group of readers or listeners. So the concept of social media is that it takes out the individual writer or reporter and turns all of the readers in the audience into writers and reporters so that a large group is sharing the information.

Confused? It’s ok – it’s actually more simple than that.

Some examples of social media include blogs, microblogs such as twitter, social networking such as facebook and social network aggregation such as friendfeed.
