How to Make Silly Putty

Silly Putty is a great substance for children to play with. This is an easy and cheap activity for children both at home and at school.

To make Silly Putty, mix:

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup glue

food coloring of choice.

In a separate bowl, mix together 1 tablespoon borax* and 1/2 cup water. Combine both mixtures and allow it to dry for an hour.

Allow children to preform a variety of experiments with the silly putty, asking questions and finding out the answers.

*Borax is a cleaning agent that cannot generally be bought in a small container. Small amounts go a long way in the recipes so consider sharing a box between 2 families or teachers. This will lower the cost and still allow each teacher or family to make many batches of several recipes.
