Having authored a book on meeting the challenges of learning disabilities, I have been researching how to best suggest that homeschoolers might utilize the information. My conclusion agrees with yours, that homeschoolers can benefit from many of the therapies and other services available to them through the public schools. These services are free of charge, and, as with any parent, the homeschooling parent can refuse any services that they feel are not appropriate for their child. Home schooling is an exciting new field for me having spent 30 years in public education as a special education teacher and school psychologist. My best regards to all the brave souls who love their children enough to take responsibility for their social, emotional, and intellectural growth.
At www.understanding-learning-disabilities.com we offer free support and advice to the parents who purchase our book LEARNING DISABILITIES: Understanding the Problem, Managing the Challenges. We will still help even if you don't purchase the book but don't spread that word too far. We depend upon the sale of the book to support our otherwise free services. We are retired educators, not attorneys, located in California.
