Phonics Pathways: Step-by-Step Phonics Program
Phonics Pathways, Clear Steps to Easy Reading and Perfect Spelling [2005, Jossey-Bass Publishing] is an excellent recourse for parents, teachers and tutors to teach children how to read. This systematic approach to teaching phonics has even been proven to help students with reading disabilities.
This phonics program is research based and can be used along with another curriculum or by itself. Each lesson introduces a new phonics skill and builds on previously learned sounds. There are games and writing exercises that help to make each lesson more interactive and fun for students.
Dewey the Bookworm follows students through each lesson, giving encouragement to students no matter what age or reading level.
This book can easily be used in an after school program or with a private tutor as the reviews allow students to be placed for remedial work. The simple instructions make it an easy choice for parents to use as well, to help catch their child up after school or as a part of a homeschool program.
When used as the primary curriculum, parents and teachers should supplement the program with appropriately leveled books to give students additional practice reading in a more natural setting.

The 10th edition of Phonics Pathways provides teachers with great new enhancements including more pictures to illustrate each sound and better lessons for multisyllable words. Additional nonsense words have been included to ensure students are learning the lessons and not memorizing the words and a simple vowel sounds test sheet that can be used individually or with the entire class.
Phonics Pathways Boosters, the companion book to Phonics Pathways, is a collection of games and additional teaching materials, all printed on heavy cardstock. You can simply remove the easy tear-out-pages you wish to use without having to create your own game pieces and flash cards. Speaking Pathways, the CD, is included in the back of the book.
