The Noah Plan Curriculum Review

The Noah Plan is a full curriculum that a parent can use to each every subject at every grade level. The curriculum is most popular among Christian families who are choosing to homeschool as it ties every subject back into the Bible and teaches every skill based on Biblical principles.

More About the Noah Plan Curriculum

The catalog contains a detailed scope and sequence that makes it simple for parents to know what to purchase for each grade and subject area. Each piece of the curriculum is bought and sold separately, which makes it easy for parents to choose which pieces they wish to use in their home schooling.

In the parent guides there is a weekly guide that helps parents know what they should be teaching and can be broken down into day by day lessons. The idea is that the weekly guide provides a road map for where to go and what to do.

Strengths of the Noah Plan

This homeschool curriculum focuses on learning with what is termed the notebook method instead of a traditional workbook method. Emphasis is placed on the four R’s: Researching, Reasoning, Relating and Recording. This is a giant leap from traditional fill in the blank workbook type curriculum and as such helps teach students how to think. When comparing students who have worked on the Noah Plan with those on a more traditional curriculum, teachers and parents alike are often struck with the ability of the child to reason and think.

This is a whole different methodology that answers the question “why do I have to do this?” by seeing what the Bible has to say about each subject. There are also suggestions for how to connect biblical principals into each lesson.

Weaknesses of the Noah Plan

This plan can be overwhelming for parents who are just starting off because of the large amount of material. Additionally, for those who do not agree with the principles taught in the Bible, or for those parents who do not want their children learning to use the Bible in their everyday lives, this may not be the right curriculum to use.

The Noah Plan and Students who are Gifted or Learning Disabled

The Noah Plan is not a scripted curriculum, which makes it easy to modify for the individual differences of each child. Parents who have a gifted child will find success using this curriculum and may be pleasantly surprised at how well the curriculum can push the child further than a traditional school curriculum does. This is because of the notebook method of learning, which allows each child to develop reasoning skills at whatever pace is right for the child.

Likewise, parents who are working with a child who has learning disabilities or who simply struggles in some area of learning will be successful when using the Noah Plan as it does not require students to fill out traditional worksheets that are often modified in the school system. As students are not tied down to these workbook methods, they are often able to work through their learning disabilities and come to love learning.

The Principled Approach used in the Noah Plan has parents teach by connecting Biblical principles to each subject. It allows children to become principle driven just as the teaching is principle driven in its approach. The Noah Plan teaches both parents and students how biblical reasoning interacts with every part of life.
