Preparing the classroom for summer is just as important as preparing it for the start of school. There are a few things that are absolute musts and will make your life that much easier in August as you prepare for the new school year.
Throw away anything that could go bad over the summer. Plants, food, and anything that is alive needs to not be left behind. Check corners and drawers for snacks and clean them out so that you do not have a mess to clean up in August.
Organize everything you can. From the paper drawer to the desks, organize, organize, organize. Cleaning up and straightening your room will be just that much less you have to do in August. Have your students help if you are looking for something to keep them occupied those last few days of school as well.
Are you moving to a new classroom in the fall? Box up everything you can in preparation for the move. Remember to box up your books and personal belongings as well so that they can be stored safely in your own home. Depending on what your summer plans are, you may need some of those books and resources as well, so keep that in mind.
Finally, don’t forget to take a moment to sit quietly and remember all the fun times you had in that classroom this past school year. But don’t sit and remember for too long, summer is calling!
