Worms!

Yay for over 4 inches of rain over the past couple days… this week we studied worms! After a long winter that seemed to never end it was a lot of fun to be able to study an animal that we could go outside and actually find in our yard!

Meet Mr. Worm, he was hiding under a mostly empty bag of mulch in the backyard.

We did a lot of “nature observation” on vacation (which, by the way, Rebecca said was not school because “it’s nature mom!”). I was glad to see some of those “slow down and look” skills come into play today as she held the worm and announced excitedly: “It’s an adult!” (Well, it helped, too, that we had read a book about worms before we went out hunting.)

If you look closely you can see the pale band on the worm that means it is an adult.

Eliana didn’t want to hold the worm but she watched, fascinated, the whole time. When we were done with Mr. Worm, we carefully put him back where we found him and watched him wiggle down into the dirt.
